Holiday fun ..

walking up the mountain .. boys leading the way

furry friends at the zoo

It's school holidays here so last week we took a little break and choofed off up to The Grampians. Our usual holiday accommodation style is to hire holiday homes - and we have stayed in some lovely homes in the past. This time we thought we would try something different and stayed at a caravan park .. in a cabin. Our thinking was that the kids will find other kids to play with - they would have fun and we could have a little break, read some books .. that sort of thing. The whole caravan park theory didn't quite pan out, but I must admit to liking the relaxed lifestyle of the park. We had a delightful cabin overlooking Lake Fyans at Halls Gap. Birds chirped, the sunsets were stunning, it had a little beach by the lake so we could make sandcastles - and overall, the holiday was a huge success. We climbed the mountain, visited the zoo, played mini-golf and had a very, very nice break. Here are a few of our millions of photos we took. We are already planning our next little break away (-:

  1. My husband has promised me he'll take me to the Grampians next time we're in Australia. Looks beautiful. The cabin on the lake would be perfect.
Is that an emu? What a crazy but cute face!

  2. Janis - you really must go there. I hadn't been there since my parents took us when we were little. It really is a fantastic holiday spot. I'm not that much of a bush-walker but found it so .. much .. fun!!! There are lots of walks for different kinds of fitness levels (and age groups).

If you ever do go, you must go to the mini golf too. It is ABsolutely amazing what they have achieved with the plantings. A rainforest feel with so many different kinds of trees/shrubs you can get lost for hours (and they even replace your lost balls - unlike normal golf)!!!

And yes, it's an emu. We have great pics of kangaroos and Tassie Devils too. Perhaps I should have posted an 'aussie animal' photo selection.

  3. Gorgeous photos Linda! Do you mean that the mini-golf is actually in a bush setting? Wow, that sounds great and I better put it on the "to do in Victoria" list which keeps getting longer and longer and longer....

Amazing what a little break away will do! Bet you feel recharged again!

  5. Heh Virginia .. the mini golf wasn't really in a bush setting - they made it like a tropical oasis. Such lush plantings. The kids wanted to come home and do it in our back paddock. We would be THE most popular family in the neighborhood if we did that.

KG - I found this holiday better than heading up to Qld. Always lots of packing & planning going interstate (-:
